Outdoor ice oval rules and regulations

NO HOCKEY ON OVAL
No sticks, pucks, or nets are allowed on the ice oval surface.


Facility Rules and Guidelines

Recreational skating
- These times are designated for slow skating suitable for all ages and skill levels. All types of skates are allowed, but skating at speed and in the basic speed skating position (i.e., crouched) are not permitted.

Open skating - During these designated times, all types of skates are allowed, including nordic blades and speed skates. Use caution as some users may be skating at speed in the crouched position.
  • Oval and parking lot may be under continual surveillance from security cameras.
  • No smoking within the oval venue and within 30 meters of the entrance gate.
  • No alcoholic beverages are permitted on the site.
  • The Prince George Outdoor Ice Oval is a violence and harassment free facility.
  • No hockey sticks, pucks or nets are permitted in the oval venue property or on the oval ice surface.
  • Please adhere to the posted skater’s responsibility code and ice rules. Be responsible for your own safety in all activities.
Skating is weather dependent and may be cancelled on short notice. You may consult the oval website.

Skater’s Code of Conduct

Ice Rules for Recreation Skating

  1. No supervision is provided. Skate at your own risk.
  2. Enter ice from the designated area.
  3. Use caution when crossing track being careful to avoid collisions. If you need assistance to access the inner lane ask for assistance.
  4. Skate counterclockwise.
  5. Pass on the outside.
  6. Slower skaters use middle lane, faster skaters use outer lane.
  7. Sleds and strollers allowed in inner lane only. Please use caution when crossing and ask for assistance if needed.
  8. Speed skates and Nordic skates allowed, but no skating at speed or in basic speed skating position. No trains.
  9. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  10. Helmets are recommended.
  11. If you create a hole in the ice surface please let a volunteer know so that repairs can be made promptly.
  12. Dangerous skating will not be tolerated.
  13. All participants are to comply with the facility rules and guidelines.
   
Ice Rules for Speed Skating

  1. No supervision is provided. Skate at your own risk.
  2. Enter ice from the designated area.
  3. Use caution when crossing ice being careful to avoid collisions. If you need assistance to access the inner lane ask an ice monitor for assistance.
  4. Skate counterclockwise.
  5. Pass on the outside.
  6. Stopping only in inner lane; slower skaters use middle lane, faster skaters use outer lane.
  7. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  8. Helmets are recommended.
  9. If you create a hole in the ice surface please let a volunteer know so that repairs can be made promptly.
  10. Dangerous skating will not be tolerated.

Policy Manual

The Outdoor Oval Society approved a Policy Manual in 2018.  The purpose of the Policy Manual is to guide the Society's Board of Directors when making decisions that support the Society's purpose, which is, "To promote outdoor skating as a recreational, fitness and competitive sport in Prince George, in particular, and northern British Columbia in general."
