Help us Make the Oval a Year-Round Facility
Become a partner in the Outdoor Ice Oval Four-season Facility and Refrigeration Project!
The Outdoor Ice Oval Society of Prince George has provided inexpensive outdoor ice skating for many years. The oval is maintained and operated by a group of dedicated volunteers, with support from the City of Prince George. However, with its natural ice surface, the oval is subject to short seasons and mid season closures due to warm winter weather.
The outdoor ice oval has had significant improvements in facilities with the addition of the Construction Association Outdoor Ice Oval Centre (equipment building), and the Canfor House, (heated change facility) which were legacies of the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Oval Society volunteers have spent countless hours finishing and improving these facilities which have greatly contributed to the quality of ice and the skater experience.
Next step — Four Season Recreation and Refrigeration! Our goal, to bring refrigeration to the outdoor oval, will also allow the oval to become a year round recreation facility. A refrigerated oval has been our dream for many years. Now is the time! Please help us realize this dream with your tax deductible donation to the refrigeration project.
How Much Does Refrigeration Cost?
The capital project cost is approximately $5-6 million for refrigeration and a concrete surface.
How Much Money Has Been Raised by the Chill the Oval Campaign so far?
Approximately $70,000 has been raised so far. While it is unlikely that community fundraising alone will help us achieve our fundraising goal, the more we fundraise the greater our changes of attracting funding from federal or provincial initiatives. Every dollar is a show of support towards this initiative.
I don't have much money to give. How else can I help out?
Monetary donations aren't accessible to everyone, but you can still help us out. Spread the word (and our social media posts!), talk to people you may know in the business community who may be potential donors, think of us if you hear about funding opportunities such as grants, become a member, or bring your philanthropy skills to our board of directors.
